New York, New York November 25th 2024: The United Nations and the Italian Mission to the UN present an event in honor of the 25th International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, in dialogue with the groundbreaking exhibition Street Art is Female, now on display at the UN, organized by Alessandra Mattanza and Augusto Perretti with the endorsement of the Italian Mission to the UN. Street Art Is Female is a curated Collection of works that promote awareness for women’s rights by highlighting many of the world’s most important women street artists. It is a celebration of the arts' power to foster peace and love, to promote education and social inclusion, and to champion equality and diversity. The featured artists work to advocate for women’s leadership and political participation, to empower women economically, and to end violence against women. Renowned standout Artists in the genre Bambi, Aiko, Alice Mizrachi, and Erin Yoshi.
It will feature official remarks by Italy's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Maurizio Massari, and a leader from UN Women, and most significantly, speeches by the artists featured in the exhibit: Aiko, Alice Mizrachi, Erin Yoshi, Claudia Hart, and Grammy winner musician Ivan Linn.
There will be dance performances choreographed by Analia Farfan, founder of the International American Ballet, and danced by Analia Farfan and Elias Re. The choreography is inspired by the art installation "ALWAYS REMEMBER" by Italian multimedia artist Alessandra Mattanza. This artwork, assembled with the help of Architect Augusto Ferretti, is dedicated to Masha Amini, who died at 22 years old after being arrested in 2022 by the Iranian Police for misplacing her veil.
The dancers will perform to an extract from "Ode to the Sun and the Moon," by Grammy Award winner Ivan Linn and Alex Wong, WAVV'S MUSICALLM.
